Why I'm pledging
On July 30, I will be in the middle of the Mediterranean, rowing hard in the blistering sun, battling salt sores, fatigue, and sea sickness, as my team seek to break the record set in 2015 for the fastest transit by a 5 person crew of under 3 days between Ibiza and Barcelona.

Rowing across an ocean or sea is like no other sport. Ocean rowing is as much about the crews’ ability to cope mentally, as it is about technique and physical strength. The endurance required will result in a life-changing achievement. Neither crew in 2013 had prior ocean rowing experience.

Since 2013, NOMAN campaign has raised $2 million in the fight against HPV, the causal agent of 5% of all cancers. The funds raised from this race will help eradicate this virus from the face of the Earth, preventing millions of cancers in the process. We can accomplish this feat via universal vaccination for girls AND boys (recent research shows that men are at a substantially increasing risk for contracting HPV-related oral cancer—you might remember Michael Douglas talking about it in 2013—however in most countries boys are not routinely vaccinated). In addition to prevention, the Foundation behind NOMAN is working hard to accelerate drug development for patients with advanced HPV-related cancer. 11 countries now routinely vaccinate boys as well as girls and in Canada, 7 provinces offer boys the vaccine alongside girls (B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and P.E.I.) -- however in the UK and many other countries they still remain excluded from the programme.

I have been overwhelmed with the Foundation's impressive achievements since the Founders started the organisation in 2010 after the loss of their mother to HPV-related cancer. My goal is help them realise their dreams of ending suffering caused by HPV by raising £5000.
