The Coast to Canterbury Walk is a very demanding but rewarding walk, which takes in some of the most beautiful countryside in southern England. The walk is around 19 miles (30.6km) long and takes in around 1000 feet (304 metres) of climbing. The walk will start underneath the white cliffs of Dover and will follow the route of the North Downs Way from there to the finish at Canterbury Cathedral.
Students and staff from Prior Park College will be undertaking this walk to support ‘Time is Precious’. This is a voluntary run charity which has been running since 2011. It was set up by Neil and Nicky Halford in memory of their son Ben who sadly died from cancer in 2010. He was cared for at Bristol Children’s Hospital, Frenchay and RUH children’s ward for almost four years.
The aim of the charity is to help create a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for children and their families in hospital or at home. The charity works alongside specialists to purchase equipment and refurbish areas to support not just those children who because of illness or disability find themselves in hospital for treatment but also their families who want to be with them because time is just that precious.
The cost of taking part is £95 and will be paid by the students themselves. Any donations you are kind enough to make will go directly to ‘Time is Precious’. The Eastcheap Charitable Trust will match the first £500 of public donations made via this website (Pledgit.net)
