Despite the delay to the 35th MdS, I am still determined to compete and continue to raise money, and the latest is that I am entering the 2021 race. Find out more below!
Having just turned 50 and with 27 years of Service under my belt, I am keen to give something back to a worthwhile charity, whilst setting myself a challenge. The Marathon Des Sables (MdS) is a six day, 251km (156miles) ultra-marathon which takes place in Southern Morocco. It is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and iconic ultra-running events; it was described by the Discovery Channel as the “toughest footrace on earth”. I am running as part of a team of four officers, two male, two female and all over 50, from the Army Officer Selection Board based in Westbury.
My aspiration is to raise at least £5000 for the charity Walking with the Wounded (WWTW). I have been drawn to this wonderful charity after witnessing first-hand how it gives our wounded a real sense of purpose and self-worth rather than simply providing funding and material help.Eastcheap Charitable Trust have kindly offered to match the first £1,000 of public donations to get the campaign off to a good start.
This website, PLEDGIT, charges just 2% to cover its costs, makes no monthly charges to charities and charges nothing on the matched funds, so a very high percentage of the amount donated will go to WWTW.
Thank you for any support you can give.
