RACE WEEK: 20th – 27th July 2019
This Summer, Team Monex Europe will be in the middle of the Mediterranean, rowing hard under the blistering sun, battling salt sores, fatigue and sea sickness, as our team seeks to break the record set in 2015 for the fastest transit by a 5 person crew of under 3 days between Barcelona and Ibiza.
Following their final safety briefings and scrutineering checks in Spain the weekend of 20th July, crews will head to the start line on the morning of the 22nd July. Ahead of them, 200 miles of open sea to Ibiza where, depending on their speed, crews will begin to reach land the morning of Thursday 25th July.
Rowing across an ocean or sea is like no other sport. Ocean rowing is as much about the crews’ ability to cope mentally, as it is about technique and physical strength. The endurance required will result in a once in lifetime adventure.
The 5 person crew taking on the challenge for charity from Monex Europe are: Tom Farrow, Patrick Ronane, David Venn, Philippe Kane and Tim Hallinan.
Since 2013, NOMAN campaign has raised $2 million in the fight against HPV, the causal agent of 5% of all cancers. The funds raised from this race will help eradicate this virus from the face of the Earth, preventing millions of cancers in the process. We have been very impressed with the Foundation's achievements since the founders started the organisation in 2010 after the loss of their mother to HPV-related cancer. Our goal is help them realise their dreams of ending suffering caused by HPV.
