Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
At the end of the July, I will be leading a team of 5 novice rowers racing across the Mediterranean from Ibiza to Barcelona. In what is expected to be 3 and half days of non-stop rowing, I will be battling mental and physical fatigue, salt sores and sea-sickness as my team seek to break the record set in 2015 for the fastest transit by a 5-man crew Here’s a little taster of the race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UrzOecBACA
Rowing across an ocean or sea is like no other sport. Ocean rowing is as much about the crews ability to cope mentally, as it is about technique and physical strength. The endurance required will result in a once in lifetime adventure.
I am aiming to raise £5,000 for a very worthwhile cause. Since 2013, NOMAN campaign has raised $3 million in the fight against HPV, the causal agent of 5% of all cancers. The funds raised from this race will help eradicate this virus from the face of the Earth, preventing millions of cancers in the process. This feat can be accomplished through universal vaccination for girls AND boys (recent research shows that men are at a substantially increasing risk for contracting HPV-related oral cancer however in most countries boys are not routinely vaccinated)
In addition to prevention, the Foundation behind NOMAN is working hard to accelerate drug development for patients with advanced HPV-related cancer. We have been overwhelmed with this Foundation’s impressive achievements since the Founders started the organization in 2010 after the loss of their mother to HPV-related cancer. Our goal is to help them realize their dreams of ending suffering caused by HPV.
