Why we're fundraising
Donations to the Bedales Summer Rock Show will be split equally between these two important and worthwhile causes:

Show Racism the Red Card
The global reaction to the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police has been unprecedented. A groundswell of opinion has quickly developed for the need for radical social change. Unconscious bias permeates all western institutions, including schools, and we should not underestimate the scale or complexity of the problem. Bedales School will be taking the opportunity of the current upsurge in global protest to review our approach, within the context of our progressively liberal DNA and the sort of school we want to be. We have established a new Diversity Working Group which will be the vehicle for steering discussions and gathering the wide range of perspectives across our community and beyond, and helping us all to drive the necessary change. As part of this work, we are keen to work with the charity Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC), initially with staff and student training. John Badley Foundation
Bedales launched the John Badley Foundation bursary initiative for fully funded places to Bedales and Dunhurst in 2010 with the first student on the scheme starting the following year. Since then the school has worked with inner-city schools and other partner charities with a shared vision to help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. The school now has 13 students on fully funded places, and a further 11 Old Bedalians have benefited from the scheme. With the continued support of the the school community, we have ambitions to grow this further so that more young people from challenging and varied backgrounds in the UK and abroad can benefit from the stability and life-changing transformation of a Bedales education, and who in turn will be an important part of building a more diverse Bedales community.
