Why we're fundraising
A team of parent, Old Bedalian, pupil and staff runners is entering one of the world’s leading running events - the Great South Run - in Portsmouth:

Saturday 19 October - mini, junior, canine and 5k races

Sunday 20 October - full 10 mile race

The team includes 18 pupils from Bedales Prep, Dunhurst and 14 students from Bedales Senior School; parents, staff, alumni and other friends bring the team up to an impressive 60 runners in total.

We are raising funds for two worthy causes that are working to transform people's lives:

John Badley Foundation - providing opportunities for children who do not have the means to consider independent education to attend Bedales and Dunhurst on fully funded bursaries.

FitzRoy - transforms lives every day by supporting people with learning disabilities and autism to do the simple things that make a real difference to their everyday lives.

"We are delighted that the Bedales Great South Run team has once again decided to support the John Badley Foundation alongside FitzRoy. The funds raised will help us offer fully funded bursaries to children who are able to join Bedales from difficult home or school situations. By taking on this challenge and inspiring support from friends and family, the Bedales runners are helping us create transformational opportunities for these children. We are hugely grateful for this support and will be cheering on runners of all ages from the pavements in Portsmouth on 19 and 20 October."
Tanya Darlow, Head of Development, Bedales

"Half of the proceeds raised from the Bedales Great South Run will go to FitzRoy, a national charity that transforms the lives of people with learning disabilities and autism. FitzRoy is a pioneering charity that listens to people and helps them make their own choices. We rely on the generous support of our fundraisers, without which we couldn’t achieve the real transformation of people’s everyday lives: the iPad that gives someone a voice, the sensory room that opens up the world, or our Love4Life dating and friendship programme that proves that everyone can find love. By running in the Great South, the team will also be helping to raise our charity’s profile and promote our vision to create a world where people are not defined by their disability."
Jim Apted, Fitzroy, Community Fundraising Manager

We are very grateful to PLEDGIT and The Country House Company for their sponsorship; this means that the first £1,000 we raise will be matched.
