Between us, we are asking members and friends of our community to commit to walking, running or cycling from Idlib in Syria to Bedales in a week! That’s 2,527 miles, or 4,066km. So, we’re asking families to devote some (or all) of their weekly exercise allowance in the week before half term to clocking up the miles for two good causes, and to get sponsored for doing so.
There is more information including updates on progress with the journey on the Bedales website here.
We hope to generate an uplifting sense of community effort around this initiative without breaching social distancing guidelines.
More on the charities....
“Syria is the biggest humanitarian and refugee crisis of our time, a continuing cause of suffering for millions which should be garnering a groundswell of support around the world.” Filippo Grandi, UNHCR High Commissioner
The mission of the Rural Refugee Network (RRN) is to help bring refugees to safety in the UK and, once here, to help them successfully resettle into their new communities. It offers grants for education, training and employment to families and young people placed across Hampshire. More information: http://www.ruralrefugeenetwork.org/
The John Badley Foundation (JBF) offers financial support through fully funded bursaries, giving more young people a chance to benefit from the transformational opportunity a Bedales education can provide. Beneficiaries have come from areas of conflict in the world, in addition to those facing difficult personal and family circumstances in the UK.
